Detroit Tank Command (DTC), an R/C Tank Club is a realatively new group of modelers based in the Michigan, Metro Detroit area, promoting Radio Controlled Tank Modeling and Operation, looking for people who either own or would like to build/own a radio controlled tank to participate in Infrared battles with thier tanks. The name DTC is derived from the original World War II Chrysler Tank Arsenal facility built in the Detroit area to provide tanks and equipment for the war efforts in Europe and the Pacific. Their products resolve helped America win WWII. There is a wealth of knowledge/history in this area and we’d like to discover it together in all facets of modeling. We encourage static modelers to join with the intent to build operational models, after all R/C modeling is a great way to learn building technique, historical significance of the vehicle, then watch your creations run under your control over/through obstacles or in "Infrared" battles.
We at the Detroit Tank Command are guided by these following points:
If you enjoy warfare, history, strategizing, and learning about military history at the same time, then this hobby is for you. This club is setup to share tips and discuss the strength/weaknesses of the tanks, equipment, and operations. Those who enjoy action modeling or who are interested in the World Wars or the History of Warfare and realistic games will enjoy the R/C Tank hobby.
The Actual tactics are used in our R/C Tank gaming, strategic maneuvering, coordinated attacks, covering and counter attacks, while providing fire support for the teams, are patterned from actual tactics and combat experiences from history and in some cases, our members. You must learn how to communicate well, how to ration ammunition and maximize battery life, move in a purposeful fashion and plan coordinated/concerntated attacks. You cannot just relying on the "big gun/tank" to kill everyone, it's more important to work as a team, in a group, coordinating team play, and getting to know more about battle history through this truely 3D gaming, or R/C Tank Battling. On the realistic battlefields of the World, tactics and strategizing is everything!
What is the unique appeal of Radio Control Tanks; it's thier various form, function, and operation is quite different from other Radio Control Model Vehicles. You don't exactly battle with planes, boats and cars, but rather, race them with the sole aim of being faster - always going round and around the circuit, tracks, or pylons. R/C Armor Modeling is different, we build historic vehicles as close as practical/possible to the 1:1 original, then operate these models in simulated Infrared (IR) battles against other tanks with compatible battles systems. Infrared battle systems do not impact or damage a model in any way. This system, Infrared, through the use of software and hardware designed to simulate battle damage, can cause a tank to have reduced functionality, limited fighting capability and ultimely completely stop, indicating it has been taken out of action. Once the battle session is over it can then be restarted to "live" again, no actual damage to the tank has been done. In many cases the battle scenio is based on an actual historic battle or events that shaped the outcome of the world we live in.
Today's Radio Controlled Armor Models can offer the full spectrum of realistic features including: the roaring historicaly correct engine sounds, rumbling tracks, turret/barrel motions up, down, side to side, the reloading and discharging of rounds, machine gun firing, battle damage sounds accompanied by infrared lights and in the future smoke spewing from the tanks' barrels. New technologies and developments are continously improving this exciting hobby. Perhaps in the near future we'll be able to add "on-board" camera systems to enable "live" realistic driving experiences with our R/C Tanks!
We invite all modelers to join; from beginners, to those of you who have your own foundries, fabricating or machining businesses. R/C tank battles are fun, especially with the participation of more tanks! We use 1/16 scale TAMIYA tanks or simular/equivalent, with an installed with Infrared Battle System/Unit to do tank battling. In general we use Radio Systems using the 2.4 ghz technologies to maximize the number of tanks that could be on the battlefield at any given time. Tankers from all over the world are always welcome to share information.
